There was once a young man named Jake. Jake was growing tired and restless of his daily unfulfilled routine: wake up, go to school, eat, do homework, eat again, take a shower and go to sleep. He thought and thought, "What can I do to break this routine"? He realized that summer was coming soon and what better way to break a routine and to break in the summer than by taking a Texas camping trip. He talked to his parents and asked them if they would allow him to go to the woods and have a camp out with his friends. His parents approved and told him that they would even allow Jake to use their Jeep if he wanted. He was thrilled and right away called his buddies Mark and Dave. They made their plans and knew they had to get through a couple of more months of school to set out on their journey.
Just when Jake thought he could not handle any more tests and quizzes, he was dismissed for summer break. As he walked out the doors of the school he took a deep breath and exhaled the warm summer air. He had one thing on his mind and that was his camping trip. He called up his buddies and told them to get ready; they were leaving that evening.
Jake's friends arrived at his house just before sunset. You could see the excitement in each one of their eyes. School was out and they were about to take a journey into the woods. They loaded up all their gear in a Jeep along with a large box that Jake's father discreetly placed in the Jeep; and they set off for their camping trip. Along the way Jake and his friends joked about how none of them had actually been camping. They thought this fact to be quite funny seeing as they were already on their way to their destination. After all the jokes and the winding Texas roads they arrived in the small town of their camping destination.
What is up DC campers? While you guys are studying extra hard for those tests and quizzes, we are back at the camp getting ready for you. The lifeguards are swimming extra hard as they get ready for you to slide down those famous, blue slides, Smileys is ordering all those curly fries you will be munching down. Gabe, Heather and the praise team are working on their jumping and singing for a time of all out praise and worship. All sorts of awesome things are happening in preparation for you this summer! As things are getting prepared here we have a challenge for you as campers and interns. Ask yourself, "Am I prepared for Discovery Camp 2008?" You might ask "How can I prepare for DC 08"? Well, we're glad you asked.
Aside from all the obvious things you do to prepare for an awesome summer at Discovery Camp, like bring your toothbrush, your racing skills on the go cart track, your "A" game on the basketball courts and an appetite for DC Smileys; there is something you might consider.
In Psalms 62:5 the Message Bible tells us that "Everything I hope for comes from Him (God), so why not?" So, if everything you hope comes from God, God says WHY NOT? WHY NOT pray and get right with God before I get to camp? WHY NOT study in the Word to get a little wiser? WHY NOT invite that friend who needs Jesus to Discovery Camp this summer? Let's take it a step further, this summer Discovery Camp will be celebrating twenty years of Miracle Moments. Over the twenty years of Discovery Camp we have witnessed countless miracles. We have seen God's healing power in lives, relationships and families!... WHY NOT ask God for a miracle to happen to you this summer at Discovery Camp?
We are absolutely thrilled about this summer! The water slide, volleyball courts and race track are waiting for you. As always the DC staff is waiting for you with open arms! Get your sunscreen and sandals because Discovery Camp is coming. Get ready and come expecting for God to do a miracle in your life this summer at Discovery Camp 2008!
So, what's the big discovery? (excuse me?) You know. It's supposed to be called DISCOVERY camp. I'm asking the question, "what's the big discovery?" What will I find when I come to camp?
Everyone comes to camp looking for something. Whether it's a fun time with friends and family, a new hook up, or even just a way of escape from the sometimes harsh reality fondly called Home. While you are spending time with us, we sincerely hope that you enjoy yourself, kick back, and even act crazy-cool (different than crazy-stupid; this way is much nicer to the staff;). We want you to get away, chill, and have fun! We want you to discover Fun. We want you to discover new friends, and they come from all over the place. Hands down though, our favorite part about camp is when we can discovery Jesus. Come with a heart open to recieve something fresh and new. In the process, you might just discover something new about yourself. The options are limitless with God. So, it looks like we'll have to discover camp together this summer once you actually get here.
